If you had told me that one day I would not only love winter but actually embrace it, I would have thought you were crazy. Growing up, I absolutely despised winter – the cold, the clothes and everything about it. I refused to wear winter attire to the point that I would often leave the house in a short-sleeve T-shirt and a cardigan, much to the dismay of my mom (and rightly so!). My scorn for winter seemed quite out of place, as South Africa has some of the shortest and mildest winters in comparison to other parts of the globe. Now living in Tel Aviv – and being closer to Europe and the culture that exists around winter – I have discovered a newfound appreciation of the season. I have learned to not only embrace winter but take joy in the season itself. The culture, the change in taste/scents and even the fashion. I do love chasing the summer but somehow this new acknowledgment has even gotten me visiting the winter. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam. Every time I go, I am reminded of its beauty. It’s a place that you can keep coming back for a different experience each time. There is an abundance of culture, nature and of course, shopping. And then, there’s the weather. Amsterdam is particularly known for its rain and prolonged winter – a big red flag for my T-shirt and cardigan loving self of the past. When planning my trip, I knew I would have access to some amazing shopping. Unlike my usual self, who thrives on carefree shopping, this time I decided to write down a list of pieces my wardrobe really needed and rather invest in some key elements over a plethora of bits and bobs. High on the list was a long coat (either black, grey or tan). I found this beauty on sale at Bershka and fell in love with the second I put it on. There is something so sophisticated about a long coat. It immediately pulls a whole outfit together and makes everything look put together. This coat got me through a pretty great week of weather in Amsterdam and I have worn it plenty of times since in TLV. Its versatility is unstoppable – being able to pair it with an all-black outfit for a nice dinner or rocking it with some jeans, sneakers and a T. You can be sure there’s more where this came from.

I had the privilege of working with Celia Ruiz for this shoot. We connected over Instagram and she was an absolute pleasure to work with. She understood my vision from the get-go and knew all the best places to shoot. We were lucky enough to capture these right before sunset and before a storm hit. If you need a photographer in Amsterdam, I can’t recommend her enough.
I can’t wait to show you all the stuff we created. You guys are gonna love it!
Celia, thank you for your incredible work and professionalism. Can’t wait to shoot together in the future again!
And a massive thanks to my incredible hosts in Amsterdam – Dani and Joel – for showing me the best time in your magnificent city!
